Murray Water seeks increase in connection fees
BOISE - The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is seeking comments from customers of Murray Water
Works regarding the company s proposals to increase connection fees to $800 and that customers no longer be
allowed to install their own service connections.
The water company, 16 miles northeast of Wallace, was sold last year to Mr. and Mrs. Arlen Lish.
Currently the approximate 30 households on the system are charged a connection fee of $125, plus $25 per hour if
they wish to have the company install the system.
The company states that the cost to install a new service is greater than the connection fee now recovers
and requests a flat fee of $800. Further, the company maintains that since it owns and is responsible for the
maintenance of the utility mains and services to the customers ' property lines , it wants to maintain control of the
method of installation.
The commission is seeking customer input on the company s proposals. Those wishing to submit written
comments can do so through June 27. Comments can be sent via e-mail by accessing the commission s homepage
at www.puc.state.id.and clicking on "Comments & Questions." Fill in the case number (MUR-03-1) and
enter your comments. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0074 or faxed to (208)
334-3762.
A copy ofthe complete notice of application is also available on the Web site. Click on "File Room " and
